As hunters we know what counts.
Whether you are chasing elk through shadowy aspens,
whitetails in the cornfields, Cape Buffalo in Tanzania or coyotes in the canyons,
we can build you a rifle that will deliver shot-to-shot
consistency ensuring that your quarry becomes your next
wall hanger.
What can Smith Guns offer for
hunters and sportsmen? While most "off the shelf"
guns and ammunition offer acceptable accuracy, defects
in chambering and stock fitting can often have a
profound impact on the accuracy of a rifle. A
classic example of this would be a Remington 700 ADL
that we came across. The owner had purchased a used 1976
Remington 700 ADL; with factory ammunition it was only
capable of a 2" group at 100 yards. After facing
the action, lapping the bolt lugs, glass bedding the
stock and fitting the bottom metal, the rifle was
capable of shooting 1/2" groups at 100 yards. With
careful load development, the rifle consistently shoots
3/8" groups at 100 yards. While this level of
accuracy is not a requirement for every hunter, it shows
how accurizing could turn a typical hunting rifle into a
tack driver.
While tack driving accuracy may not be of the utmost
importance for you, versatility may be. The same
rifle that was tuned for accuracy is also one of the
most versatile. The owner wanted a rifle that could
be used on everything from coyotes to whitetails.
To accomplish this, the rifle was set up as a switch
barrel rifle in 22-250, .243 and 30-06.
This allowed
the owner the option of 3 cartridges in one rifle with
only the change of barrels.
